That people think this is okay. Not that this is anything new. I remember 16 years ago having to search out several dance studios for my daughter before finding one that would NOT teach my 4 year old to bump & grind. But I found one. So parents have no excuse. And for parents on ABC Good Morning America to defend this sexualizing of their daughters by saying it's all in our heads....I am just speechless.
And I'm appalled that ABC thought that this was controversial enough to have long segments on it, yet showed it over and over. If "normal" people react to this as they have been, what do you think the perverts are thinking?
ReplyDeleteIt's just creepy. I remember when the Jon-Benet Ramsey murder hit the news, because I'd never heard of toddler fashion shows, which sexualize little girls the same way. It would have been funny, in a kitsch way, if the danger, moral and otherwise, hadn't been so apparent.
ReplyDeletePart of the blame has to go the "artists" like Britney Spears and especially for this song/video to Beyonce (who originally sang this song and danced a very similar routine.) Young girls look up to these stars and want to emulate them; parents think its cute and encourage the behavior.
ReplyDeleteWell I don't think I'm going to blame Beyonce because frankly I think it's a pretty tame song and dance for and ADULT woman. I'm not a prude. If adult women want to dance like that, I'm neutral. But it is not a song and dance for children and so I put the blame right back on the parents and the dance studio.
